Starlit sky hexagonal teacups, 2024

July 1, 2024

Starlit sky on a clear night / the milky way / eternity / clarity / raindrops sticking to window glass
Black stoneware clay with fine white grog, slab-built, denim satin glaze

These black stoneware teacups have hexagonal bottoms and openings and six straight sides.

Their hexagonal shape allows them to tightly pack together.

The nearly black clay contrasts with the denim glaze.
The clay is very matte, and makes the satin denim glaze nearly seem glossy in contrast.

The denim satin glaze is applied in a tape-resist starburst pattern from the corners of the geometric form.

The starbust starts on the bottom corner or two sides, and four rays emanate out from that corner on each panel.
The glaze has a dark teal base, and speckles of blues, both light and navy, float in each section of glaze.
They are solidly glazed inside with the denim satin glaze.
