Striped pitcher, 2024

May 18, 2024

Tan stoneware clay with black speckles and light grog, slab-built, denim satin glaze

This tan speckled stoneware pitcher takes the form of a truncated hexagonal trapezohedron. The base and opening are hexagons, and there are 12 staggered pentagons around the sides. The upper ones are long and the bottom ones narrow.

The denim satin glaze is applied on each side in a concentric pentagon pattern that follows the shape of each side.
The glaze is a deep navy blue, and the black speckles in the clay body show through.
The striped glaze pattern curls around the outside of the spout of the pitcher.
The inside of the pitcher is glazed solidly in the denim satin glaze.
The center of each of the upper panels has a long teardrop-shaped diamond glazed in the center, and the center of the lower panels each have a wide triangle in the center.
The bottom is stamped with my signature and the year, and the indents are filled with the denim satin glaze.
